Telford weekend

As I'm sure your all aware it's the big one this weekend, Telford.

I won't be going because I don't finish work until 0730 on Saturday morning. So instead I'm going to take my girls to the RAF museum at Hendon and hopefully pop into hannants next door.

Never ending it SEAMS'

These two kits are pushing me over the edge of that little plastic cliff. The seam above the cockpit on the B-17 has now got to the point where it is beginning to move the cockpit glazing to one side. Only solution is to STOP and let it be, otherwise i can see myself throwing this somewhere hard.

The trident also has a seam on top of the fuselage but at least it's reponded to some more filler and sanding. The real problem on this kit at the moment is the white paint, everyone i know who makes airliners swear by Halfords gloss appliance white from a can. Well I just SWEAR at it !

It has bubbled up in a couple of areas causing me no end of headaches.

Move complete

It took a few hours but I'm now back where I belong.

Airfix curtis hawk 81-A-2

I've really enjoyed doing this brand new tooling from airfix. Some of the parts are a bit of a pain to cut from the runners but other than that. Brilliant !

Just got the canopy to fit in the morning.

Whoo ! Just notice I've left the eyes off.

Revell Routemaster

I am seriously looking forward to this kit. I used to drive these on the 7's and 23's between 1998 and 2004. I can honestly see myself with 3 or 4 of these kits when they are released.

On the move again

For the third time in as many months I've had to change rooms for all my modelling stuff. I suppose i should be grateful for a room to myself. I just wish my wife and kids could decide where to put me. So as of tomorrow i'll be back to the original space i had when we moved in three years ago.

I'm having a bit of a go on E-Bay at the moment. I've bid on a lot of stuff mainly UK Phantoms but also the kit that has eluded me for some time now, the Revell re boxing of the wonderful Shackleton.

Ill let you know how it goes.

Back to the old girl

I'm back on the sea vixen after finding some more articles in old modelling magazines. I've just got a few bits to attach then it'll be time for some paint.

The desk

Published with Blogger-droid v1.7.4

I am back

It's been a long while since I've posted anything on here. So this is just a bit of a test from my i pad.

I have finally managed to get my grubby mitts on the Airfix Valiant, a plane which my grandad worked on during his national service. My nan is in the process of sorting some photos and papers relating to his time on Christmas island during operation grapple. No prizes for guessing which markings it's going to be finished in.

On the desk at the moment are the Monogram B17G in 1/48, the Airfix Trident in 1/144 ( a first for me ) and the very nice Italeri Mig 29UB in 1/72nd scale.

I've been a busy bee lately. Unfortunately most if my time is taken up at work at the moment.

Back to the old girl

Sitting down last night watching saving private ryan, I suddenly had an urge to get the sea vixen out and see where I'd left it at last time. All the insides and bays were painted but not stuck in place, so out came the glue and in it all went. I'd already decided even before the kit was released that I was going to have the wings folded. The relevant wing fold bits were stick in and the booms were put on both sides.

Just swapped this

A rather large kit with all the trimmings. A verlinden etched set, paragon resin flaps, bomb bay and crew doors also in the box are some extra decals, eduard masks and some reference material. I swapped it for a 1/48 hasegawa ark royal phantom of which I have two.

Lightning finished

Here is my lightning F.6, finished as 'JS' xr728 the personal mount of group capt John Spencer. The kit is the 1/72 revell version, the decals were from the spares box and kit stencils. I only added some etched belts and the yellow azimuth aerials on top of the fuselage spine.

This might be painful

I've started this today, it'll be the first time working with resin, photoetch and a vacform canopy all at the same time. I've already broke the seat trying to remove the casting blocks.

Tonights work

Just sealed the decals in with some klear, next up will be a panel line wash then Matt coat. The under wing rockets still need painting and all the other sticky out bits and then It's finished.

Found these shelves in the shed

One more hole to fill , what will I finish first the lightning or the super entendard ?. I might as well use my old IKEA cd towers for something.

Mossie update

I'm still loving this kit, in fact so much that I've just dug out my other mosquito kit and started thinking about schemes for that. After these pictures were taken I filled the bomb bay and gear bays with some wet tissue and sprayed on some Tamiya sky. The spinners are causing me a bit of a headache at the moment, they should have a light blue cap on them while the rest should be a pale yellow colour. I have a few ideas on how to get a perfect circle on them , I'll just have to see what works.

Coming along nicely

I'm loving this kit at the moment. The detail is great considering its all out of the box. Under the large canopy a lot of it will still be visible so my effort won't be wasted. I'm going to get the wings together now, I've got a bit of drilling to do for the rockets. I'm still not sure which path to take for the canopy , I may try painting some decal paper and laying strips down or just order some pre cut masks.

Got them

I managed to get the bits I wanted and a few bits more. I went for the 1/32 revell hawk at £16 and a couple of bases to make up some dioramas. I thought I would try some Mr hobby glue as I've heard good things about it.

Southern Expo

Well the weekend is here, and my favourite show is about 500 yards away.

What am i on the look out for ? , i don't really know. I need some Vallejo airbrush cleaner and i would like the new airfix sabre F.4 other than that it's whatever takes my fancy.

Tuesday 15 March 2011

A380 Air Canada what if.

I've painted the fuselage and put on the decals for a friend, who maybe showing this on the britmodeller table this weekend at southern expo.

Can you see what it is yet ?

With the airbus about to land in the bin its time to restore my faith in this religion of plastic. So out comes the daddy, this is a kit I've been wanting to make for a long time. So far I've just painted the main parts on the sprue with an airbrush full of interior green.

Not impressed

Don't know why this has happened, I'm going to blame the paint pies for this .

Branching out

In Modelzone last night, I was having a good look round and picked up the new airfix spitfire mk.XII, walked around some more then put it back and bought an airbus a319 and a ferrari F1 car. The car will be my first. It's a Tamiya kit so it should go together well.

Blimey that's small

Started the gladiator this morning, I can't believe how small it is compared to say a Spitfire. Not much happening inside the cockpit. A seat with some belts that's it. The canopy is very thick so you're not going to see anything in there. I'm going to have a look and see if I can get some more colourful decals for it. Lucky for me there are a lot of pictures around for this aircraft mainly thanks to the airworthy shuttleworth example.

Work, work and more bloody work

That's all i seem to do at the moment. I managed to pop out yesterday evening to put put a few bits away in the cupboards and ended up sticking the prop and spinner together and also getting the rudder attached.

I did have a bit of a panic though because i couldn't find the rest of the kit, i knew i still had one sprue left for the 109. I eventually found it inside the sea vixen box.

I've decided to be brave next and start the Revell 1/72 Gloster Gladiator, I've never done rigging on an aircraft before which is why i tend to stay away from such subjects.

Sunday 6 February 2011

All change

The wife and I have had a bit of a change around at home. I have moved all my gear back outside to the old modelling room. My wife said she needed a desk for all her work so I kindly gave up my monster of a desk. I now a have a modelling area with good natural light and a nice leather armchair for when I'm reading.

Main decals are on

These new airfix decals are such a pain, they will not settle down Nu matter how much decal solution I use. At least they haven't silvered. Hopefully I'll get the stencils on tomorrow.
