It's a monster

Wow ! Just had my first proper look at the sea vixen. If this is what airfix are going to produce from now on I'm a very happy bunny. The detail is nicely done. The cockpit seems to have a nice level of detail, not to sure about the seats yet. One look at the nose cone tells you this is a big aircraft.

Wish a tornado would come and blow this away

I've got to the stage where everytime I do or add something, I ruin what I've done before. The boz pod is about to go in the bin. I've managed to mould some milliput to make a skyshadow pod. Just to top it all off I think the landing gear is the wrong colour. Grrrrrr !

Retail therapy

I decided to brave the shops yesterday with a trip to Lakeside. I got some modelzone vouchers for Christmas and needed (yes ! needed) to spend them. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of different manufactures that they stock now. The usual suspects were there but also some Eduard, Dragon and Roden.

I picked up a few kits, all 1/72.

  • Revell Gloster Gladiator
  • Airfix Hawk T MK1A
  • Italeri Starfighter
  • Revell F16B Fighting Falcon (Only £4.99 in the sale)

I also got a few paints and some more masking tape.

The big bonus being that i walked out with some money left.

Change of heart

Some of the decals I had put on started to flake off for whatever reason , so I pulled the rest off and replaced them with some 617 sqn markings from an radical sheet I had. I had to paint the radome again and the top of the tail.

Still lots to do

As the title says, I've still got a long way to go on this one. This will take me up to Xmas hopefully. Then I can get the sea vixen unwrapped and start on it.

Tornado gr.4

I said it would be something modern so here it is. I've got some nice decals to go on it but I may use the kit ones because I have some nice pictures of one with very worn fuel tanks.

Just going to pop to the father in laws to borrow some fishing Li.e then It's all done.

What next ?

Going to quickly get the spitfire canopy done. Then what to do next, I was going to tackle the revell 1/72 Lancaster but I've lost the instructions. I'm leaning towards something modern, typhoon or harrier. I think it maybe time to get the kits out one by one and have a good look. Let's. See what jumps out at me.

Slowly getting back on track

Had a little go on the 190 this morning. Very pleased so far. I have some masks for the canopy somewhere, I'll have to find them.

1/48 Airfix Sea Vixen

I can't wait for the sea vixen to arrive, when it does I'm going to start it along with my Phantom and the 1/48 Airfix Buccaneer.

If you have a copy of the first issue of Airfix world magazine you'll know what i mean.

IT LOOKS AWESOME ! ! ! ! !

Vampire finished

Forgot to post this finished picture.

Pre shading

I'm very pleased with the pre shading on the underside of this FW190. The bottom photo here makes it look all grainy, but it's not in real life.

It's my plane so I'll say what goes on it.

Decals are on and don't look bad at all. All from the spares box. 3 squadron is the theme, well not really the theme was to have a bit of fun.

Waiting for the glue to dry

Well It's made it to the shelf just need to put the main gear doors on and a few aerials then It's finished. The bombs have fallen off more times than I care to remember.

Vampire

I started the 1/72 heller vampire last night, I'm already on the painting stage. I haven't got any decals for it , the kit ones are out of register quite badly. So this is going to be my vampire. All over medium sea grey coded GW and I've found some 3 squadron badges that are small enough to fit on the twin booms.

Decals started

The F-15 decals have driven me nuts, almost unusable. At the moment I have no star and bar on the right side of the fuselage and under the wing. The stencils I'm going to source from the spares. That'll teach me not to wait for my order to arrive. The corsair is coming along nicely though.

F-15c update

Now painted first colours on just needs the darker grey. I've left off the tail fins because I thought it would be easier to paint and decal separately. Just found some pics of the avionics bay and it appears to be a metallic blue / green colour.

Decals are done

The sharkmouth is being a bit stubborn but apart from that It's gone ok . I don't know why but I painted the top of the fin in blue it should be white, so I'll change that.

Decals ahoy

Just waiting for the last coat of klear to dry on the corsair then it's on with the decals. I'm still not convinced with the blue colour on the nose, it's still too pale.

The amt F-15c is going OK, lots of fiddling with panels and lots of sanding but, I'm really enjoying it. I've ordered a quickboost seat for it because the kit one doesn't fit well, it looks crap too. I'm still not sure about the decals for this yet, i have ordered some more but i do like the kit option so i think I'll give it a try first and see what happens.

corsair update

Ok so It's getting there. Canopies are masked and I finally got the photoetched HUD in place. The first coat of white is on, but I'm not happy at the moment. I used halfords gloss appliance white straight from the can and well, It's gone a bit weird. Hopefully tomorrow when I retrieve the model from the airing cupboard it will have sorted itself out.

A7 little bit further

I've now got the cockpit in and the fuselage is together but what a stupid way of doing the chin intake. I don't know why it couldn't be moulded as one whole piece, now i have to blend the thing in all the way round. At least you get a intake cover to hide the very shallow hole.

The start of what can only be described as a battle, me versus photoetch. Honours even in round 1.

Corsair started

I've made a start in the A7 corsair this morning but, I've been slightly hampered by my first modelling injury for a good few years. I've somehow managed to put a pin vise through the top of my finger.

Anyway back to this kit, I don't often use photoetch but it came with this kit so I'm going to try and use as much as possible before the rest falls into the carpet monster.

Saab finished

All finished with some home made remove before flight tags. I made these from some kitchen foil. I'm very pleased with it, I know the sink mark just below the canopy is annoying but I'll just have to put that down to my impatience and not letting the filler dry completely.

oh bugger !

I did put some weight in when it was put together but, not enough obviously.

I have stuck some .22 pellets down the nose intake and now it stands properly.
